
PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION covers the education of children under the mandatory schooling age. Pre-school education institutions include independent kindergartens, nursery classes in primary schools, and preparation classes.
PRIMARY EDUCATION is the training that provides basic knowledge and ensures physical, mental, and moral development of children in accordance with national objectives. The schooling age at which all children must attend primary schools is between the ages of 6 - 14. Primary education institutions have two different levels, primary schools encompasses the first 5 years and junior high schools, 3 years.
Primary schools: Five - year primary schools are the first level of the eight - year primary education.
Junior high schools build upon primary schooling and with a 3 year program of instruction. At this level junior high schools, in conjunction with high schools, are covered as independent units.
SECONDARY EDUCATION continues from primary school education with at least 3 years of education covering all secondary, vocational, general, and technical educational institutions.
General high schools have a 3 year program of instruction following completion of junior high school.
Vocational and technical high schools: These school provide is specialized instruction with the aim of training qualified personnel. The organizations and periods of instruction of these schools are different. Most of the vocational - technical high schools are administered by the Ministry of National Education, but other ministries and institutions also administer certain schools to train personnel required by their organizations.
HIGHER EDUCATION provides further and specialized education in various fields for students who have completed secondary education. The Law dated, Nowember 4, 1981 No;2547, of Higher education Institutions, concerns all higher education institutions and related sections of the institutions including all activities and principles involved.
A LIBRARY is a place where a collection of books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other printed or written material are technically classified, indexed and submitted for the use of the public.
THE NATIONAL LIBRARY is the central library responsible for acquiring and keeping copies of all significant publications and documents in order to provide and facilitate the use of such material by researchers. It also serves as a depository library and data center and can provide both domestic and international information.
PUBLIC LIBRARIES: These are free general libraries that serve the public regardless of age, sex or occupation. They aim at assisting cultural, social and technological development of the region in which they are located by supplying library material relevant to regional characteristics and needs. To improve the quality of their services they open sub-branches and lending services. A majority public libraries are attached to the General Directorate of Libraries. There are also libraries open to the public that belong to municipalities and private persons.
CHILDEREN'S LIBRARIES: These libraries have been specifially organized to serve children up to 16 years of age to contribute to their mental and psychological development, help them train themselves in science, arts and similar fields as well as develop their reading habits and act as a supporting institution to education. Children's libraries were first set up in 1950. In recent years their number has decreased as they are being integrated into public libraries as sub-sections.
BOOK : Are independent publications, whether bound or unbound, hand written, hand or machine printed or duplicated, regardless of number of pages or subjects.
MUSEUMS: Places where works of art, history, nature and curiosities are preserved and exhibited.
ETHNOGRAPHIC WORKS: Artifacts and documents that are related to folk art and folklore.
SIKKE: Ancient coins.
CANONICAL COURT REGISTERS: Records of the sha'ria courts before the foundation of the Turkish Republic, concerning properties and deeds of historical foundations.
