
SETTLEMENT: This refers to all villages and centers in districts having less than 5 000 inhabitants.
AGRICULTURAL HOLDING: An agricultural holding is an economic unit of agricultural production under a single management comprising all livestock kept and all land used wholly or partly for agricultural production purposes, without regard to title, legal form, or size. Single management may be exercised by an individual or household, or by a juridicial person such as a corporation cooperative or government agency.
HOUSEHOLD: One person or group of persons with or without a family relationship who live in the same house or in the same part of the house, who share their meals, earnings and expenditures and who take part in the management of the household and who render services to the household. Generally, in rural areas, HOUSEHOLDS ENGAGED IN AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES = AGRICULTURAL HOLDINGS.
PRODUCTION YEAR: It differs from a calender year and changes from one crop to another.Although the dates of the beginning and end of spring summer,autumn-winter planting seasons are different from one region to another in Turkey, the production year,generally,starts in October and ends in October of the following year. The production year for the 1991 General Agricultural Census is from October 1990 to October 1991.
CURRENT AGRICULTURAL STATISTICSFIELD CROPS: Data pertaining to sown and harvested area, production and yield of field crops is compiled once a year in October by final crop report forms. Also, the following are estimated in order to provide early information for the estimates of national accounts and users.
FRUIT PRODUCTION: Data for fruit production is collected in September and October via final crop report forms for fruits. Data for citrus fruit production only is obtained during March of the following year. The following are estimated in order to provide the users with early information.
OLIVE PRODUCTION: Data for olive production is collected during january and February of the following year. Preliminary estimates are made in January and August in order to provide early information for users.
VEGETABLE PRODUCTION: Data for vegetable production is compiled via final crop reports for vegetables in September and October.Preliminary estimates are made in May and June.
TEA PRODUCTION: Data on tea plantation,area,production of tea leaves and the number of tea producing villages has been collected since 1961 from 5 provinces in the Black Sea Region. Data for tea production is obtained from the General Directorate of Tea Corporation and the firms that purchase tea during january.
THE NUMBER OF LIVESTOCK: Data for the number of livestock is collected only once at the end of the year.The number of livestock is minimum at that time of the year.
NUMBER OF ANIMALS SLAUGHTERED: The number of animals slaughtered is determined by animals slaughtered in municipal slaughterhouses, factories and animals which are sacrificed Illegal slaughter is estimated at 10 % of the animals slaughtered in municipal slaughterhouses and factories.
MEAT PRODUCTION: Meat production is calculated by multiplying a specific weight for each animals, carcass weight.
HIDE PRODUCTION: Hide production is calculated by animals slaughtered in municipal slaughteredhouses, 8 factories, and animals sacrificied. For dead animals 10 % of these animals slaughtered are added in the total.
After 1990, figures cover animals slaughtered in municipal slaughterhouses and factories. The 10 % which are illegally slaughtered and sacrificially slaughtered have not been included.
MILK PRODUCTION: Milk production is computed by multiplying the number of animals which can be milked by the milking rate and the annual milk yield rate.
WOOL, MOHAIR AND HAIR PRODUCTION : Data on wool, mohair and hair production is calculated using the yield rates of adult animals.
POULTRY AND DOMESTICATED ANIMALS : Data on the number of hens, roosters, turkeys, beehives, honey, and sericulture production is collected at the end of the year.
WATER PRODUCTS : Water products include various fresh water and sea fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Data on sea products is compiled by surveys conducted among professional fishermen.
AGRICULTURAL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT : The data for agricultural equipment and tools is collected from governmental organizations and agricultural directorates to cover the equipment and tools owned by farmers.The questionnaires are sent to the concerned organizations and agricultural directorates and they are required to return these to SIS later than the first month of the new year. At the beginning of 1986, approximately 72 different pieces of information, including the number of tractors, were collected.
LIVESTOCK CONVERSION RATES : The constant value which is used to calculate the animal production such as meat, milk, wool, hair, and mohair and also estimating the number of livestock milked is obtained from the General Animal Census of 1984.
