The Remote Sensing Division was established within the SIS body in early 1992 for the purpose of gathering and processing of the statistics that pertain to artificial and natural areas on the earth (residential areas, roads, agricultural areas, forests, water bodies etc.) on both national and regional scale, via location dependent remote sensed data (satellite images and air photos) in a way to support the traditional
data collection methods of the Institute.
