THE RESULTS OF
MUNICIPAL DRINKING WATER , 2002
State Institute of Statistics has been collecting data on the current
status of drinking water services and water treatment plants of all
municipalities in Turkey within the scope of Environmental Statistics
since 1994. Municipalities not being constituted in 2002 were not
covered.
According to the results of Municipal Drinking Water Statistics, 3140
municipalities among 3215 municipalities were served by drinking water
networks.
In 2002, 5.00 billion m3 of water was abstracted by municipalities in
order to be distributed by network systems. Of this amount, 39.3% was
abstracted from dams, 29.0% from wells, 26.3% from springs, 2.6% from
rivers, 1.8% from lakes and 1.0% from artificial
lakes.
1.71 billion m3 of the total abstraction (5.00 billion m3) for drinking
water networks was treated in water treatment plants. The rate of
physical treatment was realized as 2.5% where the rate of conventional
treatment was 97.5%.
