SULPHURDIOXIDE (SO2) AND PARTICULATE MATTER (SMOKE)
CONCENTRATIONS IN OCTOBER OF 2003

Provincial and district centers having the maximum sulphurdioxide concentrations in October of 2003 are as follows in descending order; Kütahya, Bursa (City Center), Burdur, Gaziantep and Niğde (City Center). For the same period, provincial and district centers having the maximum particulate matter concentration in descending order stated as Kütahya, Kayseri, Çorum, Ankara and Kocaeli (Gebze).

Provincial and district centers having the maximum sulphurdioxide (SO2) and particulate matter (smoke) concentrations in October of 2003 were given in the table below.

SULPHURDIOXIDE (SO2)

PARTICULATE MATTER (SMOKE)

Provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of increase in sulphurdioxide concentration in October of 2003 compared to the previous October are; Manisa with 108%, Bursa (City Center) with 83%, Niğde (Bor) with 59%, Bilecik (City Center) with 39% and Çanakkale (City Center) with 33%. For the same period, provincial and district centers having the maximum rate of decrease in SO2 concentration compared to the previous October are; Yozgat with 72%, Uşak with 62%, Balıkesir with 55%, Aydın with 49% and Edirne with 47%.

Provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of increase in particulate matter concentration in October of 2003 compared to the previous October are; Niğde (Bor) with 107%, Niğde (City Center) with 28%, Bilecik (City Center) with 20%, Nevşehir with 17% and Samsun (City Center) with 13%. According to the SO2 concentrations, obtained from the measurement stations in Ankara and İzmir provincial centers, İzmir (Bergama) district center, Target Limit Value (TLV), Short Term Limit Value (STL) and First Warning Level Limit Value (1. WLL) did not exceed in any measurement stations.

For the same period, according to the particulate matter concentrations, obtained from the measurement stations, Target Limit Value (TLV), Short Term Limit Value (STL) and First Warning Level Limit Value  (1. WLL) did not exceed in any measurement stations in Ankara and İzmir provincial centers, İzmir (Bergama) and İzmir (Ödemiş) district centers.

Since the sulphurdioxide and particulate matter concentrations could not be measured in İstanbul in October of 2003, no evaluation could be done.
