SULPHURDIOXIDE (SO2) AND PARTICULATE
MATTER (SMOKE)
CONCENTRATIONS IN OCTOBER OF 2003
Provincial and district centers having the maximum sulphurdioxide concentrations in October of 2003 are as follows in descending order; Kütahya, Bursa (City Center), Burdur, Gaziantep and Niğde (City Center). For the same period, provincial and district centers having the maximum particulate matter concentration in descending order stated as Kütahya, Kayseri, Çorum, Ankara and Kocaeli (Gebze).
Provincial and district centers having the maximum sulphurdioxide (SO2)
and particulate matter (smoke) concentrations in October of 2003 were given
in the table below.

PARTICULATE MATTER (SMOKE)
Provincial
and district centers, having the maximum rate of increase in sulphurdioxide
concentration in October of 2003 compared to the previous October are; Manisa
with 108%, Bursa (City Center) with 83%, Niğde (Bor) with 59%, Bilecik (City
Center) with 39% and Çanakkale (City Center) with 33%. For the same period,
provincial and district centers having the maximum rate of decrease in SO2
concentration compared to the previous October are; Yozgat with 72%, Uşak
with 62%, Balıkesir with 55%, Aydın with 49% and Edirne with 47%.
Provincial and district
centers, having the maximum rate of increase in particulate matter concentration
in October of 2003 compared to the previous October are; Niğde (Bor) with
107%, Niğde (City Center) with 28%, Bilecik (City Center) with 20%, Nevşehir
with 17% and Samsun (City Center) with 13%. For the same period, provincial
and district centers having the maximum rate of decrease in PM compared to
the previous October are; Aydın with 60%, Hatay (İskenderun) and Uşak with
50%, Bursa (City Center) and Sivas with 49%, Balıkesir with 45% and Kütahya
with 44%.
According to the SO2
concentrations, obtained from the measurement stations in Ankara and İzmir
provincial centers, İzmir (Bergama) district center, Target Limit Value (TLV),
Short Term Limit Value (STL) and First Warning Level Limit Value (1. WLL)
did not exceed in any measurement stations.
For the same period,
according to the particulate matter concentrations, obtained from the measurement
stations, Target Limit Value (TLV), Short Term Limit Value (STL) and First
Warning Level Limit Value (1. WLL) did not exceed
in any measurement stations in Ankara and İzmir provincial centers, İzmir
(Bergama) and İzmir (Ödemiş) district centers.
Since the sulphurdioxide and particulate matter concentrations could not be measured in İstanbul in October of 2003, no evaluation could be done.
