SULPHURDIOXIDE (SO2) AND PARTICULATE MATTER (SMOKE)
CONCENTRATIONS IN FEBRUARY OF 2002
The Presidency of State Institute
of Statistics, in the extent of the environmental statistics, declared
the statistics on air pollution related to the sulphurdioxide (SO2)
and particulate matter (smoke) concentrations of provincial and district
centers in Turkey in February of 2002.
According to the statement
of the State Institute of Statistics, provincial and district centers having
the maximum sulphurdioxide concentrations in February of 2002 are as follows
in descending order; Kütahya, Yozgat, Bursa (Orhangazi), Ağrı and Samsun
(City Center). For the same period, provincial and district centers having
the maximum particulate matter concentrations in descending order stated
as Kütahya, Ağrı, Sivas, Diyarbakır and Çorum.
Provincial and district centers
having the maximum sulphur dioxide (SO2) and particulate matter
(smoke) concentrations in February of 2002 have been given in the table
below.

PARTICULATE MATTER (SMOKE)

According to the SO2 concentrations, obtained from the measurement stations, in February of 2002, Target Limit Value (TLV) exceeded in the measurement stations of Cebeci and Sıhhiye in Ankara. On the other hand TLV did not exceed in any measurement stations in İzmir. Short Term Limit Value (STL) and First Warning Level Limit Value (1stWLL) did not exceed in any measurement stations in Ankara and İzmir.
For the same period, according to the particulate matter concentrations, obtained from the measurement stations, while TLV have been exceeded in all measurement stations in Ankara, TLV exceeded in the measurement stations of Alsancak and Konak in İzmir. STL exceeded in the measurement station of Cebeci in Ankara. On the other hand STL did not exceed in any measurement stations in İzmir. 1stWLL did not exceed in any measurement stations in Ankara and İzmir.
Since the sulphurdioxide and particulate matter concentrations could not be measured in İstanbul in February of 2002, no evaluation could be done.
