*Electricity generation increased by 9.22% in the fourth quarter of the 1997 compared with the fourth quarter of the 1996; and also increased 5.62% compared with third quarter of the year 1997.

*Turkish Electricity Generation Corporation (TEAŞ) generated 71.8% of the total electricity generation in the fourth quarter of the year 1996, and 69.1% in the fourth quarter of the year 1997.

* When gross electricity generation by primary energy resources is examined the largest share of resources being water with 36.1%, lignite with 32.89%, and natural gas with 18.69% in the fourth quarter of the year 1996, and this rate becomes water wit h 37.14%, lignite with 31.12%, and natural gas with 21.00% in the fourth quarter of the year 1997.

- The total electricity generated was consumed mainly industry with 51.31%, and dwelling with 20.63%.

This figures for the fourth quarter of the year 1997 were industry with 50.40%, and dwellings with 21.74.

- Total electricity consumption in the fourth quarter of the year 1997 increased by 10.03%, and reached to 22.403.234.024 kW.

- Electricity distribution companies income from sales of electricity in terms of current prices in the fourth quarter of the year 1997, increased by 71.21% compared with the fourth quarter of the year 1996.

While 16.052,8 GWh was generated in thermal power plants, and 9.085,5 GWh was generation in hydro power plants in the fourth quarter of the year 1996, the figures for the fourth quarter of the year 1997 were 17.260,2 GWh, and 10.196,9 GWh respectively. While there was a 7.52% rice in electricity generation in thermal power plant and this rate becomes 12.23% in hydro power plants in the fourth quarter of the year 1997 comporate with the fourth quarter of the year 1996.

Total electricity generation by production companies, in the fourth quarter of year 1996; TEAŞ with 71.8% auto- producers with 7.1%, concessionaire companies with 2.1% production with 1.00%, privatization administration with 18.00% this rates for the f ourth quarter of the year 1997 were TEAŞ with 69.1% auto producers with 8.0%, concessionaire companies with 2.2%, production companies with 2.3%, and privatization administration with 18.4%, and Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

Gross electricity generation by energy resources in the fourth quarter of the year 1996, water 36.14%, lignite 32.89%, naturel gas 18,69%, fuel-oil 8.54%, hard coal 2.91%, and others 0.83%.
