ANNOUNCED THE GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT ESTIMATES
FOR THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1997
 AND
THE GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT ESTIMATES
BY EXPENDITURE APPROACH FOR 1997

IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT THE QUARTERLY
 GROWTH RATE OF GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT
 IN REAL TERMS, COMPARED TO THE SAME QUARTER OF PREVIOUS YEAR, IS 6.4%.

    It was stated that the old Gross National Product figure for 1996 was also revised by using new data. Gross National Product for 1996 was estimated as 14 978 067.3 Billion Turkish Liras in current prices and  106 079.8 Billion Turkish Liras in 1987 constant prices. Current growth rate is 90,7% whereas it is 7,1% in 1987 constant prices. Gross National Product per capita in 1996 is 238 896 076 Turkish Liras in current prices, resulting 2 900 $ per capita income

    GNP on expenditure approach has been calculated by using final foreign trade figures for 1996. GNP  figure for first and second quarter of 1997 will be published, when revised data on foreign trade statistics are avaliable.

I- Quarterly growth rate of sectors in the first and second quarter of 1997 compared to the same quarter of previous year.

II - Growth rates of sectors,  compared to the same quarter of previous year, in first, second, third and fourth quarter of 1996.

III - Growth rates of expenditure groups, compared to the same quarter of previous tear, in first, second, third and fourth quarter of 1996.
